The 4 Best Windshield Covers for the Snow

If you live in a snowy part of the country, you may have encountered a common issue. Snow on your windshield.

The added annoyance of having to clear that extra debris before you can get to work can be frustrating and stressful.

But thankfully there are many affordable options to keep your windshield safe, and even some that can work year round to keep the sun out as well.

Let’s take a look at the 4 best windshield covers for the snow:

1. Winter &Summer Car Windshield Cover from Kinder Fluff

Weight: 9 Ounces
Adhesion Method: Magnetic

Kinder Fluff has a design that is one of if not the most popular item in the category.

They use magnets to keep this firmly in place overnight. This is an all round season cover, and in additon to magnets they have “anti-theft flaps”.

Well, what does that mean exactly? It’s basically their marketing speak for suction cups. It’s harder for someone to rip off because of these little cups that grip to your frame, which is cool but we wouldn’t go as far as saying anti-theft!

In addition to the magnets keeping it firm, they have hooks to give you extra grip on your tires. Sometimes wind is a problem and magnets aren’t a surefire solution in all elements, so it’s nice to have some more support. The all weather capability of this product however ISN’T just marketing speak we’re happy to report. Many owners use it primarily as a sunshade.

This is great for larger vehicles and SUVs. It comes in three sizing options and three styles as well. The most common being the “sun/snow” style. It’s a great value for someone looking to protect their vehicle in all elements.

2. OxGord Windshield Snow Cover Ice Removal Wiper Visor Protector All Weather

Weight: 1.1 Lbs
Adhesion Method: Tension

Next to our option we went over in at #1, this is also an extremely well selling design by OxGord

It’s at a slightly higher price point however if you’re going for the cover for the front of your vehicle.

This is an all-weather option that has strayed from the pack for the fact that it does not use suction cups or magnets. This uses a regular old tension loop that you secure around your mirrors.

The “anti-theft” features of this design inspire quite a bit more confidence in us. It actually tucks into your door jam with a generous extra piece of fabric on either side. Compared to suction cups, we think the likelihood of this getting stolen is much less. It also weighs a bit more than most covers.

If you’re willing to pay a little more but prefer the tension fit style, this is the pick for you.

3. Car Windshield Snow Cover, Universal Fit, Windshield Cover with Side Mirror Covers

Weight: 8 ounces
Adhesion Method: Tension & Buckle

Miyo has a lightweight polyester cover that addresses a concern most others dont, that is your side mirrors!

They need love too, and Miyo hath givith. Another all weather option, this does not use magnets.

It uses an interior buckle to snap securely from the inside of your vehicle, and there are also hooks to attach to your wheels. In the world of tension fits, this is a great design to keep things tight.

It’s also much more affordable(at least currently) than the two options above on this list. If you want a bang for your buck option, this is a great choice. It doesn’t have the runway of happy customers that the other two have, but it has enough! If you pick up this newer design, come back and let us know how it worked out for you.

4.Cosyzone Car Windshield Snow Ice Cover Frost Guard Visor Protector All Weather

Weight: 15.2 oz
Adhesion Method: Magnetic & Tension

Cosyzone has an all weather cover that is a bargain. It is our second magnetic design featured and it’s different in that it’s a hybrid.

They use elastic straps in addition to three magnets, with flaps as well that fit inside your vehicle. All of this comes together for a snug fit that you won’t have to worry about in the wind.

They did not use the same material as most(polyester). Instead they have a composite grouping of aluminum foil, cotton, and taffeta fabric. The cotton is to prevent scratches. The verdict on this product is in as a whole, we along with customers love it.

FAQS

Are suction cups and magnets better than tension fits for covers?

Well, to be honest they both have their positives and negatives. Magnets are kind of on an island so to speak when they secure something. If wind, or anything else moves them then they may give a little bit. That could lead to scratches in paint(depending on fabric) or just part of your windshield getting exposed slightly.

A tension fit has.. Tension the entire time it’s covering something. Whether there is a breeze or not, it’s more likely to stay exactly put due to this.

What are most car covers made of?

Polyester is the common fabric because of its water resistant properties while being lightweight. It’s the fabric used in every product in this review minus number 4.

Will these covers fit my vehicle?

Most covers are designed to be universal. A quick way to see if the covers fit your vehicle is by googling your model and year plus the word “windshield dimensions” and comparing this to the windshield cover you wish to buy. Just to be sure.

So for example you could type “Ford F150 2018 Windshield Dimensions” and find your figures. Then taking this information, just compare it to the cover you wish to buy.

Conclusion

If you want an “all weather” type of cover, something to keep in mind is that heat weakens magnets. So if that’s what you’re after, a tension fit design will suit you better for the long term. If you’re just going for something for winter months, then magnetic fits are fine.

Another thing to keep in mind is that many of these use a part that inserts into your vehicle cabin to keep them taut. If that’s the design of the one you purchase, make sure the seal is tight in your door jam. Sometimes people complain about small leaks during a rainstorm from this piece of fabric, but really most cars create a very tight seal.

With all that said, we hope you agree with us when we say blank is our favorite choice. But there are still three very good additional options here. If you pick up something from this guide, make sure to come back and let us know how it worked out for you! Happy shopping.
